About Us

Our Food

We believe in fresh, simple food made well with the best ingredients.

Our menu is small, and we want to keep it that way. It’s how we make sure that we do it well. We use only the best local ingredients, sourced locally to make each meal.

Our Chips are made with locally sourced potatoes, hand cut with the skin on. We don’t use whiteners or other additives like MSG or flavourings, only salt.

Our coleslaw is made in small batches to ensure it’s always fresh

Local is Lekker

South Africa is our home and we’re really proud of that. That is why we use local ingredients in our food and local artisans for our shops.

If you look around any of our shops you’ll find great work by local artists and artisans. Everything from our Light shades to our chairs, our clothes display units to our storage units. All of them are made by proudly local South Africans.

The tunes playing at any of our shops are by local artists, not imports here.

We use proudly local, iconic South African brands such as Cerebos™ Salt, All Gold™ Tomato Sauce and Champion™ Toffees.

We’ve partnered with Local designer Amanda Laird Cherry on a Proudly South African line of T-Shirts.

Our Responsibility

We love this land & want to celebrate it wherever we can. We want future generations to also be able to enjoy this amazing country but we know that it starts with us.

We have removed plastic straws and plastic water bottles from our shops as we try to remove all single use plastics from our shops. It’s a small gesture and we hope that others join us.

Recycling

We love this land & want to celebrate it wherever we can. We want future generations to also be able to enjoy this amazing country but we know that it starts with us.

Our mission is to reduce our environmental footprint by recycling as much of what we use as possible.

We started with our takeaway boxes and packets. From the very beginning we sourced packaging that is 100% recyclable and we provided bins to make it easy for our customers to help us recycle.

Now, all our shops have dedicated recycling bins for sorting. Cans, plastic & paper are collected weekly and then sent for recycling.

Be Koel

We love this land & we want future generations to also be able to enjoy it as much as we do but we know that it starts with us.

In mid-2017 we removed plastic straws from all of our shops. This was met with an overwhelmingly positive response from customers and other establishments alike. This started us on our journey to remove all single use plastics from our shops.

We understand that we have only taken small steps toward a plastic free environment, but we’re proud of the support of our customers and our communities. We hope we inspire others to join us on the journey.
